Security
Policy
A security
policy is a documented statement adopted by senior management to
dictate the role security will play in an organization. The policies
guide the organization to enact procedures that promote security
and raise security awareness for individuals within the organization.
Security policy at institutions of higher education is the responsibility
of the senior administration of the institution. The administration
and staff conduct procedures that enforce and carry out the institution’s
policy. The security policy should be comprehensive and understandable.
The security procedure must be clear, definitive and match the objectives
of the security policy established by the institution. A successful
policy will adhere to international standards such as the ISO 17799
and British Standard 7799.
