Backup and Recovery Assessment

The Need
Information systems are about information. For most organizations, that information is in a database. Protecting that information against loss is paramount for the IT department. Losing critical organization data can severely disrupt operations, cost a lot of money and perhaps cause an organization to go out of business.

Data can be lost in several ways: by accidental human error, a machine malfunction or major catastrophe. Backups protect important data from being lost if these or other events occur.
Many times, when a problem occurs with a database, the backup is available. Yet, in the pressure of the moment, administrators are scrambling around, trying to recover the database. It often takes time to locate backup files or tapes, verify that they are the correct ones, mount the tapes, and restore the files.

All these activities must occur while a production system is down and managers are sweating bullets. The recovery is completed, but it takes much more time and effort than needed. This lost time causes lost production time for the production users, which can affect business and aggravate users.

Would you be interested in some insurance that your Oracle database system can be recovered quickly and effectively in the event of a crisis? How much is that insurance worth to your business?

The Inplexus Solution

Inplexus offers a service called an Oracle Recovery Assessment. Inplexus staff will work with your IT staff to review current backup strategies, assess disaster recovery possibilities and verify recovery plans. This recovery assessment will test your policies, procedures and skill levels to recover your Oracle systems in the event of downtime due to lost data or database systems. The assessment can also include a "fire drill", where a database is created for the purpose of testing for database recoverability. Recovering a broken database is a sure way to confirm that the database and the database staff can recovery the database.

Upon completion of the assessment, Inplexus will provide mentoring on backup and recovery scenarios along with other portions of the database.
